Total Knee Replacement

Patient-specific guides for total knee replacement

SurgiNovi’s total knee replacement templates are designed from CT imaging to guide planned bone preparation on the femur and tibia. The guide configuration relates to the selected implant and the proposed resections. Its role is to support defined steps within the knee replacement procedure.

The femoral template incorporates features for the main femoral cuts and lug-hole preparation. The tibial template provides features associated with the proximal tibial cut and implant preparation.

Guide features and their purpose

Cutting slots direct the planned resections, while fixation features are intended to hold the guide in its designated position. These functions need to be understood together. The slot exists in relation to the correctly positioned guide and the approved plan.

Reviewing a knee replacement case

Total knee replacement planning involves more than selecting an instrument. Clinical findings, imaging and the surgeon’s assessment establish the treatment approach. The guide then supports the intended bone preparation within that approach.

For a patient with altered anatomy or retained hardware, the planning discussion should explain how those details affect the intended use.

Questions about this guide

Is it the same as the Cut Femur configuration?

These are separate applications. The Cut Femur page describes a workflow involving manufacturer instrumentation for the remaining femoral preparation. The appropriate configuration needs to be established for the proposed case.

Does the guide replace the knee implant?

No. The guide is an instrument used during bone preparation. The implant is a separate device selected as part of the surgical plan.

What information matters before design?

The relevant imaging, intended procedure and implant choice need to be understood. Any details that could affect guide positioning or the proposed resections should be raised during planning.
