Patient-specific templates and surgical guides
A patient-specific template is an instrument designed around the anatomy of an individual patient and the steps defined in a surgical plan.
The relationship between anatomy and the planned action is the defining feature. The guide has an intended position on the relevant bone surface and incorporates features associated with the procedure. It gives physical form to selected parts of the preoperative plan.

The practical value of a guide lies in the task it supports. A clearly defined cutting plane or drilling direction can give the surgeon a concrete point of reference when reviewing a proposed operation.
The surgeon needs to be familiar with the guide’s positioning and intended function. Training and product-specific instructions are important because fit alone does not explain the sequence of use or the limitations of an instrument.
The SurgiNovi range
Tailored surgical cutting guides engineered to enhance precision and reduce intraoperative variability. Each template is uniquely crafted for the individual patient’s anatomy to ensure precise surgical execution.

Assessing the anatomical problem
Unusual anatomy, deformity or previous surgery may raise questions that require closer planning.
Examples of patients with knee osteoarthritis who can benefit from SurgiNovi's products:
General Conditions
- Blood types 0- or A- who find difficulty finding a blood transfusion
- Prone to fat embolism
- Severe morbidity or illness (cardiac, liver diseases or diabetes)
- Bleeding tendency (e.g., haemophilia)
Orthopaedic Considerations
- Bilateral simultaneous for severe osteoarthritis
- Extra-articular deformities
- Articular deformity (e.g., severe varus)
- Excessive Femoral or tibial bowing
- Instability
- Retained metal (e.g., old plate, IMN)

What the planning discussion should establish
Before an instrument design is finalised, the clinical and technical discussion should make the intended use clear. Relevant details may include the anatomical region, laterality, planned procedure and implant system. Where a case involves existing hardware or altered bone, those details also need to be understood.

Accuarcy
SurgiNovi's custom-made surgical guides have proven accuracy results in alignment, rotation, and sizing. Surgical planning at SurgiNovi is done on weight-bearing imaging and relies on mechanical axis alignment, which is the gold standard in knee surgery. Planning is based on anatomical landmarks from the patient's CT scans.
Value-Based Products and Services
SurgiNovi offers many other services to orthopaedic surgeons, such as preoperative planning of joint replacement surgeries and 3D alignment assessment of the lower limb. SurgiNovi assigns a planning team for each individual surgeon to reach a true understanding of each surgeon's technique and preferences.
Surgeon's Training
In order to achieve such high precision with the least risk, it is highly recommended for each orthopaedic surgeon to take proper training on the surgical technique prior to doing real surgeries on patients.
Safety Note
The major advantage of SurgiNovi's patient specific templates is the elimination of violating the medullary canal with subsequent risks of blood loss, infection, and fat embolism.
