Custom-Made Implants
Designed around patient anatomy
Custom-made implants are a separate category from surgical guides. A guide supports a defined step in a procedure; an implant is intended to form part of the reconstruction.
When a bespoke design is considered
A reconstruction may raise questions that are difficult to address with a standard implant configuration. Significant bone loss or unusual anatomy can prompt the clinical team to consider a bespoke design. Whether it is appropriate depends on the individual case.
The starting point should be the reconstruction objective. The team needs to understand the available anatomy, the intended position of the device and the proposed method of fixation. Customisation is useful only when its purpose is clear.

Understanding the related products
Some cases may involve consideration of an anatomical model or patient-specific guide alongside an implant. These products have different purposes and should be assessed separately within the same clinical plan.
Our anatomical models page describes physical representations used for planning and education. The patient-specific templates page explains instruments intended to support defined surgical actions. Neither product category independently establishes the suitability of an implant.
The relevant anatomical region, proposed reconstruction and current imaging requirements provide a useful basis for an implant discussion. The contact page lists our offices for questions about the product range and the information needed to assess an individual enquiry.
